Teachers Grateful for Sensational Show of Community Support-

Teachers are on picket lines at the 17 schools in the Yuba City Unified School District this morning. The Yuba City Teachers Association estimates 95% of its bargaining unit members participated in Day 1of the strike yesterday. YCTA President Dina Luetgens says “we expect their resolve to be even stronger today. A few members who crossed the line yesterday say they will be on the picket lines today. Student attendance in the district was less than 50% and we expect attendance to be lower today.”

“We are grateful for the hugs, the honks and the hope families and community members have shared with us,” she said, adding that families have brought water, sunscreen, ice and food to teachers on picket lines. “We hope YCUSD will have a change of heart and will negotiate a fair and just settlement for 2015-16.”
