We had over 50 people show up to the board meeting Tuesday, May 8. Every teacher has felt the impact of budget cuts these last few years. Some of us don't know of any better times. Please remember how your own classroom and school site have changed when you look at this presentation . It never needed to happen.

District proposes furloughs and longer work days Hello, District proposes pay cuts and longer work days. District already has more than $5 million already set aside in next year's budget for possible cuts. The Governor's budget will allow for status quo education funding if the tax initiative passes in November. The last time we agreed to pay cuts, the District ended the year with $17 million. The attached graphic shows the District's multi-year projections of the ending fund balance the last time we absorbed significant pay cuts. This year's District's ending fund balance is projected above $15 million. This Monday is our last Rep Council of the year. All are welcome to attend. Budget Newsletter
YCTA presented a comparison of the District’s multi-year projections
to the actual ending fund balances using the District's numbers.
We can provide additional details about the complexities of budgets,
however let us simply address the District’s acknowledgment that their numbers
are “5.46%” wrong. YCTA has not yet confirmed the magnitude of this
error.
If we accept the District’s assertion of 5% wrong and use
$100 million as the approximate district budget, then a 5% error would
represent $5 million.
Here is 5% in perspective.
5 million dollars
is the equivalent of any one of the following:
·
77 additional teachers for our students
·
9% increase in salaries for every employee in YCUSD
·
Daily prep periods ...

Last chance of the year-dinner with a Board member Just to let you know Mike Hudson and Herb Cooley will be joining us for the Dinner with a Board Member this Wednesday. We've got some new folks attending the dinner this week--yeah! And there's still room for more. If you could please let me know by Tuesday if you'll be coming to dinner, that will give me time to order the food. Again, it will be this Wednesday at 5:30 at the union office, 1095 Stafford Way, right behind El Zarape. Thank you, Krista Smith, YCTA PAC
