Your bargaining team met with the District on October 13.

We expected a response today to our comprehensive proposal to address all issues in our sunshine proposal.  Not only did they not bring a proposal, they attempted to engage us in a discussion without any proposal on the table from them.  They felt that once we understood that there were other priorities for the money we would reduce our proposal.  We did not reduce our proposal and informed the district that we expect the district to bargain with us and bring forth a proposal.

The district stated that if they met our salary proposal they would go bankrupt.  Our proposal would not bankrupt the district.   The Facts:  We proposed a 15% salary increase since we are 15% behind the state average, according to the data from the California Department of Education. The cost is approximately $7.9 Million, which represents 7.3% of their LCFF revenue. Their LCFF revenue increased by 17%.  They have the money, if they choose to value us.  The data is clear.  YCUSD has a problem attracting and retaining teachers.  Comparable salaries should be a much higher priority for them.

Our next scheduled bargaining date is either 10/29 or 10/30.  We appreciate the tremendous support of our members.  Thank you.  Our next opportunity to show the Board that it is time to value and respect us is November 3 at 5:00 pm.
