Today’s written proposal from the District falls far short of comparable salaries and includes a number of serious – permanent  –  contract concessions, making the District’s package proposal unacceptable.

The District’s proposal included an odd set of three salary options, one of which includes no change to compensation for 2011/2012 and requires us to begin negotiations all over starting with 2012 - 2013.  And, neither of the other two options brings us anywhere near comparable salaries with Marysville. All of the proposed salary options remain tied to contract take-backs, including:
·       Limiting advancement of unit members on the salary schedule for having a child, working part-time, suffering from a catastrophic illness, or caring for a loved one. (This opens the door to non-uniform salary options and would also pose future risks to fair salaries for all.)
·       A new proposal to limit a unit member’s ability to earn credits toward advancement on the salary schedule.
·       New language to reduce the stipends for advanced degrees for part-time unit members.
·       Closing negotiations for the effects of the Common Core, such as professional development that pulls you out of your classroom and requires hours of lesson planning for a substitute, time intensive scoring of student writing, or other impacts.
·       Removing safeguards in “Site-Based Decision Making” thereby bypassing negotiations and possibly extending our work day without compensation.

Our starting salary is 12% behind Marysville, and our top salary is 16% behind Marysville.  With no proposed ongoing increase for 11/12 and 12/13 and only 5% for 13/14, our salaries would continue to remain far behind. Compared to the state average salaries from the YCUSD SARC (Districts in same category), our beginning teachers would remain 10% behind, our mid-range teachers would remain 11% behind, and our highest teachers would remain 12% behind.

As we drafted this update, the District announced a special YCUSD Board meeting this Friday, 9/27/2013 at 4 PM.

Our members will gather together on Monday 9/30/2013 at 3:45 PM in the YCHS MP Room to meet with our Bargaining Team and Crisis Team.  We will immediately begin taking the next steps in our action plan.

Your support has already had a tremendous impact.  We will continue in solidarity.
