A Message from the YCTA Bargaining Team-Thursday(8/18) Rally and Tuesday(8/23) Board Meeting

Your YCTA Bargaining Team sends this message with both a sense of urgency and empathy for your frustration regarding recent District actions.  Let’s be clear-a strike by YCTA is imminent.  But, as always, the YCTA Executive Board and the YCTA Bargaining Team, with the assistance and advice of the top people at CTA, have developed a comprehensive plan to employ a strike if it is needed as the method to resolve Bargaining for 2015-2016.  As a bargaining team, we realize you do not necessarily see the importance of another rally, another appearance at a Board meeting. But our request this time to do so is based on the fact that we are asking the community to support us in a strike action.  Community support is vital if a strike is necessary.  The rally Thursday, and the attendance at the Board meeting next Tuesday is to solicit community support, and to recognize those members of the community who have stepped forward to advocate for quality education for their children and to recognize their courage to enter this contentious time in YCUSD.  We know some of you want to strike now, or yesterday! But there are considerations we must take into account.  We do not strike to thumb our nose at the District, we do not strike because we cannot stand this anymore.  We strike because it is our legal right, and because it has become apparent that it is the only thing that will move an employer that has resorted to the disrespect, the misinformation campaign, and the downright ugliness that YCUSD has become.  Plan on attending the rally at Gray Ave. and Highway 20 on August 18 from 4:30-5:30 and the Board meeting on August 23, to support community members who choose to confront the Board.
