A brief update from YCTA Bargaining Team (3/3)

posted Mar 6, 2016, 8:54 AM by Yuba City Teachers Association

YCTA and YCUSD met again today(3/3).  The District’s proposal remained essentially the same.  When asked to describe the improvements in compensation over the last proposal, the District responded that they had agreed to an additional new teacher workday for 16/17, a potential retirement incentive, and a counselor work year for 16/17 following the side letter for the past several years.

Otherwise, the compensation offer continues to be no salary increase, except for those folks with 75 units beyond a BA and the SLPs.  At the same time, the District is still proposing a 3% increase to our work year (the same 120 minutes x 20 days for 16/17) for the same 1% raise in compensation.  And, they revised their previous proposal from “ the work day will be 7 ½ hours” to  add the words “no less than 7 ½  hours.”  The District did not sunshine this issue, and it is therefore not a legal subject of bargaining.  This is not the only issue that they did not properly sunshine. Nevertheless, they continue to attempt to engage us about them.

Bottom line:  On January 27, 2016, the District reported the value of their compensation as 3.5% (2% for the salary increase for the few, 1% for next year and 0.5% for the extra day - June 6) on January 27, 2016.  Today, they placed the same value on their compensation proposal.

The Bargaining Team has left for the night at about 6PM.  We will meet again tomorrow to plan our next steps.  Watch for an email shortly after.  You expect more details to follow.  The Bargaining was at all three Starbucks standing along side our YCTA members in the rain.  We thank you for your support this morning, as always.
