Hello YCTA

Read this email for details about the CTA Diversity event and  the random Friday non-work day - September 25.

Do you need Professional Development Hours to move over on the salary schedule?

This training may be an option.  I have sent the information to Doreen to get advanced approval for this training and am waiting for a response.

Want to explore the impact of gender, race and culture norms on our interactions with others?

Want to explore classroom activities to  implement in your classroom?

Want to attend a CTA event to celebrate our diversity?

We have been invited.  The trainer for this regional CTA event is a local teacher from Live Oak.  Gabby sent me the email below to forward to all of you.

The celebration of diversity and training is close by at the Gold Country Casino in Oroville.  Check out the attached flier.  The deadline to RSVP has been extended to this Friday.

The dinner takes place on our random Friday off (9/25), while the training is on Saturday (9/26).  You can attend either or both.  Rosi Alvarez, Barry School teacher and CTA State Council Rep, is attending and would love to have you join her at the dinner or training.

Friday, September 25 was originally set aside for a Buy-Back type of Professional Day.  However, there is no work scheduled for YCTA Bargaining Unit Members on this day.  YCTA had hoped we could reach an agreement with the District last spring to extend our work year by two days (coupled with a 1.1% increase in compensation for the extended work year).  The District would not agree to pay for this extension of our work year and instead has continued to pull us away from our students for PD and replace us with substitutes.  The State Budget provided YCUSD with $1.4 Million dollars for educator PD.   They had the money to pay for our time and choose not to do so.  The cost would have been less than half the total money.

This Monday is Rep Council.  Rep Council meetings are open to all YCTA members.

Be an active part of YCTA.  Don't forget your blue shirt for tomorrow and check out this week's blue flier.

Have a great day,
