YCUSD Prep Time - TUESDAY!

This is a call for YOUR support....At the March 13 School Board meeting, YCTA presented Board members and District administration with brief, oral summaries of the four values that our members have expressed (through their Site Reps and in the YCTA member survey) as their highest priorities:

1- Value Education Professionals
2- Value and Trust Educators' Experience
3- Value Time as a Finite Resource
4- Value the Educational Environment

Preparation or "prep" time within the instructional day for ALL teachers, K-12, is explicitly included in the fourth value; providing prep time to YCTA members - starting with grades 6, 7, and 8 at all sites with those grade levels - will be the focus of our efforts at this week's School Board meeting tomorrow night. (This issue IS on the agenda.) Representatives from those sites with grades 6-8 will briefly share the benefits of quality preparation time within the instructional day for the students/parents, teachers, school sites, and the district as a whole. In addition, we will present the Board with petitions in support of the District's 6-8 Prep Committee proposal to provide prep time to 6-8 teachers at Central Gaither, Butte Vista, Riverbend, Barry, and Tierra Buena, while maintaining prep periods at Gray Avenue and AK. Our high school colleagues are encouraged to attend Tuesday to show their support for prep time, too.

School Board members have said that our presence at this meeting - our VISIBLE SHOW OF SUPPORT for this proposal and for our Bargaining Team - will make a significant difference in how they decide to vote on the issue. EVERY BODY COUNTS, literally, so please plan to attend.

Tuesday, March 27
