Hello YCTA Members,
YCTA has the right to negotiate our work-year and
in order to do so we need your input. Read to the blue
at the end to see HOW we will gather your input.
The District has proposed two calendars (attached). However, we are not
limited by their starting proposals. We may propose
alternatives, such as the insertion of professional development days within the
school year to allow for collaboration and training as needed.
We are happy to report that the District's
proposal includes a full-week at Thanksgiving.
When we have surveyed our membership in the past this was by far the most
overwhelming preference. In addition, the District's proposal includes a mid-week start. We believe this
to be good for both students and staff as it eases both back into the routine
of school days after a long summer break.
The only difference between the two proposals from the District is the length
of the winter break and its impact on second semester. One of the
proposed calendar's includes only two weeks at winter break and a full week in
February and a four day weekend at Memorial Day in May.
We will need your feedback to negotiate our
work-year. We have planned to ask your Site Reps to bring back a survey
to you after the Rep Council meeting this Monday (11/21).
Please be prepared to share your interests and preferences for the calendar
with your Site Rep.
In addition, we expect that the Calendar Committee will meet as
per the Contract to prepare a recommended calendar to be presented to the
District and YCTA by January 1.
If you are interested in serving on the Calendar Committee, please notify
me. (While I do have reps from a variety of sites, I am more than
willing to consider anyone interested in serving.)
